Megabeep is a site about progressive chiptune music created and managed by John Tiberio (www.johntiberio.com). “Chiptune” refers to music that is made primarily using the sound chip native to vintage video game consoles, either directly or via sampling or emulation. But If you’re vaguely familiar with chiptunes, you might have the wrong idea about the music this site will feature. The most common kind of chipmusic is a sort of fun-loving high energy dance music. That style is very popular–and much of it is great– but that’s not the focus of Megabeep. This site is interested in composers who are pushing the chipmusic genre forward by using the vintage console sound as a pallet for rigorous composition, hence progressive chiptune music. The site has two purposes. First, it’s a source for album reviews and news about the best prog-chip musicians out there. Second, it’s a place for yours truly to post my own chiptune compositions. My hope is that the site will eventually grow into a net label for progressive chiptune releases.
